Kindergarten Science News- notes

Week 3, Sept. – 12 – 16

I was good to meet those of you who came to Back to School Night.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

It is important to let me know about any allergies, sensitivities and health concerns.  If you have not done so, please fill out and return the lab safety rules.

We completed the introductory lab we started last week with an experiment to practice “doing what scientists do”.   The students enjoyed listening to “Yoko” by Rosemary Wells in addition to a ‘Bunny Story’ to help them understand polite practices when making observations.   The students examined unfamiliar fruits (durian, rahmbutan, and a bread fruit) and described its characteristics.   They then made some predictions about what they would be like inside before cutting it open to find out what they were like.

We then had a discussion on the characteristics of living things.  Although there was no one defining attribute, and non-living things were able to do some of the same things that living things could do, but hey could not do all of them.  Our studies will include Zoology (study of animals) and Botany (study of plants).
